Do you have exciting activities coming up this year?
Was your student chapter actively involved in the community or throughout NAEA? Tell your SOC, Melissa. I'd love to spotlight your student chapter. Send me some information about past, present, and future activities, and pictures if you have them to maschaefer@eiu.edu.
Southeastern SC Spotlight: University of Tennessee Knoxville
The NAEASCUTK (National Art Education Student Chapter at The University of
Tennessee, Knoxville) Chapter had a busy spring 2009. Thirteen members
participated in A Very Special Arts Festival (VSAF) and the Dogwood Arts
Parade. Over 400 special needs students from Knox County Schools traveled to West High School for a day of music, dance and art activities.
Art Education majors held two art booths for the students coming that day. They assisted students in making tissue paper “Monet’s Garden” paintings and decorating Origami Lily’s. All had a great time.
One week following the VSAF, club members decorated a float for the Dogwood Arts Festival Parade in Knoxville. Home Depot donated the flowers, and Rocky Top donated the float. The artwork previously made by the students attending the VSAF was on display in addition to a display of cellophane and tissue paper flowers.
Currently, members are preparing for a silent auction of 5 X 5 artworks to
take place in early December. Raised monies will be used to buy art books for children in the Philippines.
This 2009-2010 year, we have approximately 20 members that are actively engaged and attending meetings. Besides raising monies, one of our other goals is to update our web site. In addition, we have begun a peer tutor program to assist students throughout the undergraduate and graduate art education process.
Thank you to Stephanie Cramer for the spotlight information!
